Good food, reasonable prices, huge portions, and really friendly service. No complaints!

If you have ever watched the show 'Kitchen Nightmares' with Gordon Ramsey, you might think you have deja-vu walking into Barons. Walking in, I thought I'd stepped back into the 80s ... and not in a good way. The plastic flowers, dreadful artwork, dark interior, marble effect table tops.... not a good start. The cutlery came; when I unwrapped the thin paper napkin I couldn't believe I was going to be using the flimsey aluminum knife and fork to eat my dinner.....really, for these prices.....this is the quality? The side plate was the cheap thick white generic crockery you find in the cheapest of places....plus it was dirty. The wine glasses - I'm sure I had the same ones as a student... So, I found myself thinking 'what would Ramsey be saying now?'. The menu is very unexciting. Bread was nice, served warm...but it would be nice if they made their own as I suspect the roles were the semi baked frozen ones found in your local wholesaler. We ordered clams to start, which were a pleasant surprise (they were in a delicious sauce) - leading me to think I'd been too quick to pass judgement. Alas, not so. My husbands ribs came out stone cold. My poached salmon (wild Alaskan) had been cooked from frozen - very bland taste and slightly overcooked which is such a tradegy. The mixed vegetables were also fresh from the freezer, the rice - very non descript. All in all, not worth the money. The night before we'd eaten at Aspen Grille...wish we'd returned there instead for the same price. Staff were pleasant, but have they no idea the place is so in need of a complete make-over?

My fiance and I dined here on the Sunday before Memorial day, largely because it was one of the few non-chain restaurants open. Average service, below average food. Terrible cuts of meat, she had the filet special (cut wrong way for the grain) and I had the NY strip special. Both were tough to the point of being inedible, though we both agreed the seasoning was very good. I ordered a side of bearnaise which was served cold, when I requested that it be heated the waiter said it should be served room temp. Not true, at room temp and below it separates. Anyway, save your money and go somewhere else.

I would recommend another option. Our party of seven were their for over two hours. The service was very slow. My steak was very good but others in my party did not receive the steaks prepared the way they ordered them. I could have gotten a better salad from a bag salad at a supermarket. The bottomline is you can get more for your money and have a better experience if you don't go there. Our price for our party of seven was $220.00. What a waste of time and money.

If you end up in Myrtle beach looking for a great local restaurant with delicious food, this is your place. We stumbled upon Barons in a local guidebook, and decided to give it a whirl. I knew the Ohio State flag and Chief Wahoo banner at the bar was a good sign. The owner, unbeknownst to us, was there staffing the restaurant and hails from Youngstown, Ohio. Everything our group tried was amazing, but in particular, you should try the steaks.

Not bad but not the best experience. I'd say everything was average to include the food and the service. Nothing more than that! The silverware seemed old/dated/scratched as did the tables/chairs and the carpet a bit dirty. My salad seemed pre-made vs a freshly made salad to order. Again, average rating!

We went to celebrate a friends birthday. The table was meant for two but seated four. The rolls were cold and silverware looked ancient almost dirty. The salad was tiny and warm really not what youd expect from a steakhouse. The fillet mignon was actually sirloin cut to look like medallions...chewy, grainy, hard to slice. Two of our party had the seafood and the grouper wasn't fully cooked while the shrimp was overcooked (grilled). The bottle of wine cost $25 for a screw top. The bean vegetable medley was undercooked. When we went to use International dining certificate it was buy one entree get 17.00 toward second entree they only credited $17 total on 4 entrees. When we walked in a woman was sending her chicken back cause she said it was not cooked...I should have turned and left right then. I was totally embarrassed because I was taking a friend for a birthday dinner. Total cost nearly $200.00 and really lousy.

If Baron's was a child... it would be the kind of child that would drive a parent crazy. Capable of great moments and ridiculously poor moments. Baron's should be really, really great. Instead... it's a frustrating experience. We have eaten at Baron's 3 times over the last six years while on vacation. In large part we have come back because we forget about all of the negatives and, to be honest, there are not many great places to get a steak near NMB where we vacation. We avoid chain restaurants on vacation and because the entree is always so good, we keep coming back hoping that they have improved everything else. But they haven't. Hopefully this review will remind me not to go back. To start with, this type of restaurant should have impeccable service. We have never received outstanding service. Barely adequate is how I would describe it. Drinks are often empty without timely refills, salad plates sit until the main course is brought... it's really the level of service you would expect at a Denny's.... like at 4 am on a Saturday morning. Speaking of Denny's, which I haven't been to since my college days, I remember being served a brownish lettuce salad at Denny's and thinking... what did you expect, it's 4 am in the morning? When I am served a brownish lettuce salad at Baron's prior to my $35 filet arriving... it's pretty darned aggravating. All of our salads literally looked like they had been made weeks before and sat in a refrigerator waiting to be served. My daughter loves lettuce so much she'll eat it plain... but she looked at me and said... "Do I have to eat the rest?" The salad dressing was watery and tasteless. And of course, the salads sat on our table for what seemed like forever. Eventually my filet arrives and, it's very good. They dry-age their steaks which isn't my preference but the flavor is very good. Just not as juicy as I prefer. The baked potato was devoid of any seasoning or flavor. It reminded me of business meetings where dinner is served for 150 people and the food made hours in advance. The vegetables were equally lackluster. The bread was, surprise, surprise... bland. Baron's should be so much better. They seem to believe that good main entrees (our steaks, prime rib, etc were all very good) are all they need to do... everything else is poor quality, almost like they are not even trying. So, unless you are willing to pay a premium price for a good steak and substandard everything else... you should avoid Barons. Three visits, three strikes and we won't be back.

Baron's -- best steaks at the beach... or so they say. I tend to agree! The food is great aside from the frozen vegetables. The steaks are outstanding and the portions are perfect. Waiters know the menu and are very friendly. Our special request for a birthday dessert and drink was accommodated very quickly. However, I think the manager needs to schedule an extra server because service can be a bit slow during dinner time (which is the only time they're open). The decor does not match the price point. I like the place, but the tables need updating as do the silverware and dishes. If I'm paying top dollar prices then I expect everything to reflect that price point - not just the food. It's a nice place to stop for a good steak once while you're on vacation. It's certainly not a place I could afford to eat at more than once in a while (dinner for six was $200 without much alcohol and a 15% off coupon on the non-special entrees). Either bring the prices down a touch and/or spruce up the joint for another star or two.

The steaks are great, that's about it, returned tonight for my wife's Birthday only to be seated for 10 or so minutes then waited another 10 minutes before we walked out. I'm not sure if they were under-staffed but there's really no excuse to not even have your drinks served and you've been warming a chair for twenty minutes. We ran into the owner is SAMs club one day, his cart was full. I was kinda shocked to be honest and not in a good way. From the beef and shrimp to the cheesecake, yep you guessed it.
